In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Carter family. Donald's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall their be anymore pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mr. Donald Eugene Carter, Sr.

Life’s Journey of Donald E. Carter Sr.

1st Cor. 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

Donald Eugene Carter Sr. was born May 13th ,1931 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He was a member of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Chaffee Arkansas. He met and married Billye Jo Turner, raised a family and became a lifelong resident of Fort Smith Arkansas.

During his lifetime he worked at several places including, Ebone Tire, Seiter’s Grocery and American Can Company. He was a longtime member of King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, and held several positions, including Chairman of the Deacon Board. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Progressive Men’s Club of Fort Smith. He also was a member of the Fort Smith branch of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and for many years served on the planning committee of the annual MLK Day Celebration and parade. He served Sebastian County for over 40 years as a Justice of the Peace, marrying hundreds of couples at the county courthouse and around the county. He was also one of the longest serving members of the Sebastian County Quorum Court.

He was preceded in death by his wife Billye Jo and son Donald E. Carter Jr.

Those remaining to cherish his memory, his wife Frankie Moore of Fort Smith Arkansas, brother Roderick Stewart (Ruby) of Jefferson City Missouri, Daughters, Donice Andrews (John) of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Aurelia Cooley (Melvin) of Winchester Virginia, Starla Carter-Smith of Philadelphia Pennsylvania and Akua Carter (My Black Angel) of Fort Smith Arkansas; granddaughter, Makhaela Janelle Carter of Fort Smith Arkansas; three sons, Ronald Carter (Kim) of Kansas City Missouri, Anthony Carter of Fort Smith Arkansas, Jermaine Carlos Jarrett Carter of Houston Texas, and a host of great-grandchildren, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, 3509 Johnson St., Fort Smith, Arkansas 72903.

Celebration of life service will be held, Friday, December 29, 2017, 11:00 AM at the Fort Smith Convention Center, 800 Rogers, Ave., Downtown Fort Smith, Arkansas, 72901.

Committal service and final resting place Fort Smith National Cemetery, Fort Smith, Arkansas.
