It is with love and adoration that we recount the life of Evelyn Maltbia. She was born on February 15, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois at Cook County Hospital to the union of Theophilus and Mayme Snow. At five years old she went to live with Aunt Willia B. & Chester Buice. Because they thought they could not have any children and they fell in love with Evelyn. And her mother Mayme made a great sacrifice to let her live with her sister Willia and she accepted Christ at an early age. Evelyn attended Oakwald Grammar School and then later graduated from Wendell Phillips High School. She went to Chicago State College and having a deep desire to help others decided to have a career in nursing and became a R.N. Then she met Olson Maltbia and fell in love and married. Then moved to Detroit MI. and to this union six children were born. Later her grandmother Bamberg was dying in Chicago and requested that Evelyn come and she did with her husband Olson. After her death they decided to move back to Chicago where the jobs were plentiful. Evelyn went to work for Mercy Hospital where she retired from after 30yrs of work. While in Chicago she joined Progressive Baptist Church under pastorate of T.E. Brown. Evelyn worked faithfully with the Bessie Sanford Mission and the Unity Club until the death of her husband Olson. She then moved to live in Conway Arkansas, to live in the home that her husband lovingly built for her. After moving to Conway she united with the Pleasant Branch Baptist Church where she attended faithfully until her health didn’t permit any longer. And on Thursday September 6, 2018 the Lord called her home to be with him.
