In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Jacobs family. Joyce's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall their be anymore pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mother Joyce Jacobs.

Joyce Lee Jacobs was born March 2, 1933 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to the late Cleo and Bessie Mott-Lee. She is also preceded in death by seven of her ten siblings and one grandchild, Ayanna J. Carter.

Joyce accepted Christ at an early age and united with Saint James Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Fort Smith Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Roosevelt Jacobs, Sr. in 1954, who also preceded her in death, and from this union five children were born.

Later in life, Mother Jacobs helped to establish Unity Missionary Baptist Church in 1973 and became a charter member. She was the mother of the church and faithfully served her church in several capacities: Choir Member, Church Clerk, and Financial Secretary until her health failed. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia and became a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist in 2018, where she was a member of the Mother’s Board until her death.

Joyce leaves to cherish her loving memories, five children, Janice Romelle Johnson of Decatur, GA, Vickie Lynn Jacobs of Scottdale, GA, Joyce Renee’ Livsey (Leonard) of Atlanta GA, Roosevelt Jacobs, Jr. (Sun Hui) of Fayetteville, NC, and Lee Duane Jacobs of Columbus, GA; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Gregory L. Lee (Wanda), and a sister, Beverly Quimby (Mark) all of Fort Smith, AR, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 14, 2019 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Rowell-Parish Mortuary Chapel 611 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.

Celebration of life service will be held Monday April 15, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Unity Missionary Baptist Church 1301 North 13th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.

Committal service and final resting place will be held at the Fort Smith National Cemetery Fort Smith, Arkansas.
