Rutha’s earthly temple is now resting in the care of Veasley Funeral Home. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Rutha Mae Dickerson was born on June 29, 1947 to the late Walt Virgil and Sadie Harris in Springfield, Arkansas. She departed this life on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at the age of 72. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Plumerville, Arkansas. She loved fishing, traveling, bingo, casinos and spending time with family.
Rutha Mae attended Eastside High School in Menifee, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a wonderful cook. She was married to the late Alvin Dickerson, Jr. in September of 1973. She attended Greater Mt. Baptist Church until her health started to fail.
Rutha Mae was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Virgil, Sr., and great grandson, Brandon Virgil.
Rutha Mae leaves a legacy of love to her two daughters, Beverly (Dexter) Williams of Menifee, Arkansas, Markeeta Dickerson of Russellville, Arkansas; two sons, Robert (Gail) Virgil and Rufus (Gloria) Virgil both of Conway, Arkansas; three sisters, Ollie Mae Jones of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Wanda Virgil of Morrilton, Arkansas, Eve Toney of Morrilton, Arkansas; two brothers, Peter Harris of Springfield, Arkansas, Amos Brewer of Detroit, Michigan; life long love of 40 years, Charles Alford, Sr. of Springfield, Arkansas; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Celebration of life service will be held Friday, January 17, 2020, 11:00am at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 728 Mt. Olive Road, Plumerville, Arkansas 72127.
Public viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 12:00noon to 7:00pm at Veasley Funeral Home.
Committal service and final resting place will be held at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
