In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Armstrong family. David’s earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mr. David Armstrong.

David Armstrong was a gift from God to Otha Armstrong, Sr. and Lula Ellingberg on Tuesday, May 23, 1944 in Paris, Arkansas. He was called to take his eternal rest from Fort Smith, Arkansas on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Otha Armstrong, Jr. and David Lee White, and a sister, Lorriane “Pat” Booker.

David enlisted into the Army on January 24, 1964. After serving three years in the military, he traveled around the country touching and helping everyone he met. He met the love of his life, Henrine Powell, in 1980. They started their lives together in St. Louis, Missouri. David worked for AM Vets Moving Company in Missouri, until an accident caused him to become disabled. He retired and relocated his family to Fort Smith, Arkansas in June of 1985.


David filled his retirement days with working at the fairgrounds during fair season. His days were also filled with babysitting and giving advice to his many grandchildren, nieces, nephews. He loved watching wrestling and westerns, going fishing, and playing dominoes. He will truly be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him throughout his life.

David will be forever remembered and cherished by his life-long companion of forty-one years, Henrine Powell of Fort Smith, Arkansas; seven daughters, Jurneathea (Mark) Rice of Parker, Colorado, Maria Armstrong of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Raquel Armstrong of Kansas City, Kansas, Felicia Phillips of Spiro, Oklahoma, Marcia and Zena Powell both of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Alcina (Chadwick) Jones of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Gerald (Stella) White of Palo Alto, California, Willie G. White of Cameron, Oklahoma and Michael White of Boley, Oklahoma; a sister, Barbara Armstrong of Fort Smith, Arkansas and a host of grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends he loved like family.


Walk though visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Rowell-Parish Mortuary 611 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901 | 479-782-9200.


Celebration of life service (Family only) will be at 11 a.m. held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Rowell-Parish Mortuary Chapel.


Committal service and final resting place will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Fort Smith National Cemetery 522 South 6th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
