In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Hayes Family. Dorothy's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Dorothy Hayes.

Dorothy Nell (Trotter) Chaney-Hayes was born on September 2, 1921 to Turner and Martha (Hendrix) Trotter in Mineral Springs, Arkansas was a loyal and faithful member of Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church. Dorothy transitioned from this earthly home to her Heavenly home on July 24, 2023. Upon her graduation, she attended Flint Hill Elementary School in Mineral Springs, Arkansas and Tollette High School in Tollette, Arkansas. She married A.C. Chaney on September 5, 1940. They moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas where their family grew to include seven children, Shaika (aka Douglas), Roy, Sue, Michael, Patricia, Curtis, and Martha. Shen later married Robert F. Hayes on August 4, 1992. She was in numerous organizations: President of Mt. Zion Usher Board, Nursed Aid, Order of the Eastern Star and Senior Citizens President of Fort Coffee.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; three sons, Shaikh Abdullah, Michael Chaney, and Curtis Chaney; grandson, Keith Bunch and two great-grandchildren, Odessa Bunch and Jaray Bunch.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories, son, Royl (Selma) Chaney of Southside, Alabama; three daughters, Sue Bunch of Fort Coffee, Oklahoma, Patricia Chaney of Monticello, Arkansas, Martha Curry of Killeen, Texas; daughter-in-law, Gloria Chaney of Taylor, Michigan; twelve grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at Rowell-Parish Mortuary.


Celebration of life service will be held Monday, July 31, 2023, 11:00am at Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church, 910 North 7th Street, Fort Smith, Arkansas.


Committal service and final resting place will be held at Washington Cemetery, Fort Smith, Arkansas.
