James Allen Cade (aka: J-Allen, Dancing Bear, Homie and Dumpling) was truly a blessing from God on Thursday, December 17, 1942 to the late Clarence Jake and Helen (Pegues) Cade in Fort Smith, Arkansas. God called him to take his eternal rest on Monday, April 19, 2021 from his home town, Fort Smith. He was also preceded in death by his three sons, six brothers and five sisters.

James attended the Fort Smith Public Schools, and loved baseball. He was baptized at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. J. M. Oliver at Saint James Missionary Baptist Church. He enlisted in the United States Army and after completing active duty, he moved to Pittsburgh, California for many years. There he united with Saint Phillips Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Alexander Thompson where he served as an usher.

James was employed at Saint Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco, California as an orderly for many years before moving back to Arkansas. He re-united with Saint James Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Gary Hinkle, Sr. (now Rev. Paul Davis) where he served as an usher when possible and remained until his health began to fail.

James was tender-hearted, and would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it -and it would fit. He loved his family, family get-togethers, the San Francisco 49ers, his “new” wheelchair, his cell phone, and he truly loved Dr. Pepper. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him so dearly! In the Fort Smith and Oklahoma area, everyone was his “kinfolks”.

James will be forever cherished and remembered by his son, Jerry Thomas of Fort Smith, Arkansas; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Tommy Cade; four sisters, Linda (Ezekiel) Johnson, Nona Council, Rose Smith all of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Tracy (Nicholas) Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas; an adopted sister, Gladys Whitfield of Texarkana, Arkansas, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Rowell-Parish Mortuary 611 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.

Celebration of life service will be held Friday April 30, 2021 at 12 p.m. at Saint James Missionary Baptist Church 4916 High Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904.

Committal service and final resting place will be at the Fort Smith National Cemetery Fort Smith, Arkansas.
