In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Balenton family. Joe’s earthly temple is now resting in the care of Veasley Funeral Home. Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mr. Joe Balenton.

Joe Thomas Balenton was born May 24, 1954 in El Paso, Texas to Solomon Patrick and Matgree Curlett Balenton. Joe, a twin, was the third of seven children born to this union and he departed this life Monday morning, April 18, 2022. He is preceded in death by both parents; wife, Patricia Payne Balenton; daughter, Sonya Nicole Balenton; sister, Floy Marie Balenton.


Joe graduated from Conway High School in 1973 where he was a member of the 1973 Conway High School Wampus Cat State Basketball Championship Team and was voted as the best "Sixth State Man" that year. Following graduation, he served in and retired from the United States Army. After his discharge from the military, he performed janitorial work for the Conway Public Schools, Hendrix College and also worked in food service with the St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. In his spare time, he loved to fish.


Joe married Linda Mack and to this union a daughter was born, Sonya Nichole. He later married Vickie Nelson and to this union two children were born, Jeff Thomas and Ashley Elizabeth. He married once again to Patricia Payne and to this union, no children were born.


Joe professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Ebenezer Methodist Episcopal Church in Conway, Arkansas where he sang in the choir and occasionally served as an usher. Whenever he was asked to sing a solo, he most often chose "Without God, I Could Do Nothing".


Joe leaves to cherish his life and memories, son, Mr. Jeff Balenton of Portland, Oregon; daughter, Ms. Ashley Balenton of Little Rock, Arkansas; grandson, Mr. Cody Davis of Jacksonville, Arkansas; granddaughters, Ms. Shanteria Davis of Little Rock, Arkansas, Ms. Kierra Monee of Sherwood, Arkansas; three brothers, Rev. Lou Balenton of Plainview, Texas; retired 2nd Lieutenant, Robert (Sherriel) Balenton of Waynesville, Missouri; Rev. Andrew (Brenda) Balenton of Conway, Arkansas; four sisters, his twin, Mrs. Jessie (Rev. Tyler) Cain of Conway, Arkansas; Ms. Sandra Sherman of Conway, Arkansas, Ms. Brenda Love of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Ms. Selena Roberts of Conway, Arkansas who along with Sandra provided loving and constant care to Joe once his health began to fail and until his passing, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.


Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 11:00am to 12:00pm with Celebration of Life service at 12:00pm, both services will be held at Greater Pleasant Branch Baptist Church, 601 Spruce St., Conway, Arkansas 72032.


Committal service and final resting place will be held at Robinson Cemetery, Conway, Arkansas.
