Odell’s earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mr. Odell Meadows, Jr.

Odell Meadows, Jr. was the sixth blessing from God given to the late Odell and Lucy (Edwards) Meadows, Sr. on Tuesday, September 3, 1940 in Wellington, Texas. He was also called by God to take his eternal rest on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was also preceded in death by his son: Gary Meadows; his siblings: Verdia Mae (Tip) Hughes, Lutrenia Tennison, W. T. Meadows, James C. Meadows, Effie L. Williams and Betty Ogbolu.
Odell was raised in a Christian family home; they attended Saint John C. M. E. Church. At the age of 18, he took a bold step and became a member of the Church of Christ in Wellington, Texas, and he remained a faithful member. He attended the Public Schools in Idabel, Oklahoma, until his family relocated to Wellington, Texas on a cotton pull in the fall of 1949. He continued on his educational journey at the Booker T. Washington High School; and graduated in 1959. He played basketball, ran track, and was a part of the BTW Community Choir. He was one of the lead singers in the Meadows Family Gospel Choir of Wellington, Texas. He was very popular, friendly handsome Christian man who was loved by all he met throughout his lifetime.
Odell, after high school, moved to Dallas, Texas and attended college and learned a trade in bowling machine and became a repairman. He and his brothers enjoyed time together bowling for free as they worked. He was also employed by the Caterpillar, Inc. and the United States Postal Service for several years. While in Dallas, he met and married his first wife, Julia, and to this union five children were born. Years later, he married Janice and to this union, one child was born. He relocated to Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he met Barbara Hubbard, and they enjoyed seventeen years of holy matrimony. In Fort Smith, He was a faithful member of the Ninth Street Church of Christ; he was passionately known as Brother Meadows. The job he loved the most was his seven years of employment with the Fort Smith Public School at Southside High (his favorite school in all sports).
Odell was always spotted at as many different ball games in Fort Smith, Van Buren, Alma and sometimes, even Greenwood (he loved them all). Many players and spectators from different teams would reach out and share fond memories of seeing of speaking to him at the games. He went to nearly every volleyball game his grandchildren played throughout the years, although we ask him not to sit with us when we played Southside High; he was a very vocal supporter of his favorite school (even though his granddaughters were on the opposing team). He also enjoyed Westerns. He will be endlessly adored and appreciated in the hearts of an entourage of family and friends.
Odell will be forever cherished by his wife: Barbara Meadows of Fort Smith, Arkansas; his children: Princess Monique Lopez of Atlanta, Georgia; Sharon Meadows of Arlington, Texas; Odell (Denise) Meadows, III of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Sheliah Meadows of Temple, Texas; Dwayne Meadows of Dallas, Texas and Kristina Meadows of Plano, Texas; his step-daughter: Tiffany Webster (Reggie Brown) of Fort Smith, Arkansas; his step-son: Eugene Webster, III of Atlanta, Georgia; eighteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brother: Roscoe Meadows of Amarillo, Texas; his sisters: Minister Fredonia (Rev. R. L.) Hunnicutt of Wellington, Texas and Sally (T. J.) Jones of Abilene, Texas, thirty nieces and twenty-three nephews; two sister/nieces: Clara (Norman) Trimble and Mary (Rev. Herman) Moore all of Amarillo, Texas; sixty-eight great nieces and nephews; brother-in-law: Romie Ogbolu; an aunt: Josie Meadows and a host of cousins in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and a host of other cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, January 28, 2022 from11 am. to 4 p.m. at Rowell-Parish Mortuary 611 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
Celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Ninth Street Church of Christ 1930 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904.
Committal service and final resting place will be at the Wellington Cemetery in Wellington, Texas.
