In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Palmer Family. Ruby's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Ruby Palmer.

Ruby was the third child, and the second daughter born to the late William Sr., and Corrine Rogers in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was baptized at an early age at St. Augustine Episcopal Church, where she served as a faithful member until her health failed. She attended Howard Elementary School and was a graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1963. She received her BSE degree from AM&N (UAPB) and her Master’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas (UCA).


Ruby married Herbert (Tiny) Palmer, Sr., in 1974 and to this union Cassandra Palmer-Thorne was born.

She was a Special Education Teacher, retiring after 42 years of teaching; and taught 41 years at Howard Elementary School. During her teaching career, she touched the lives of many children.


On October 13, 2023; Ruby went home to be with her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her husband: Herbert Palmer, her parents: William and Corrine Rogers, sister: Janis Rogers and brother: William (Bill) Rogers, Jr.


Ruby leaves to cherish her memory; daughter: Cassandra (Kendall) Thorne and granddaughter: KeAunna Thorne. Four (4) sisters: Hazel (Douglas) Frazier, Cendilu Rogers, Marilynn (Dwight) Lee, all of Fort Smith, Ar., and Patricia Rogers of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Two (2) brothers: George (Ann) Rogers of Dallas, TX., and Eddie (Joyce) Rogers of Peoria, Arizona.

Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Visitation for family and friends will be Thurs., October 19, 2023; 4:00 to 6:00 PM, New Covenant International Christian Ctr., 4400 North N Street, Fort Smith, AR.


Celebration of life Service will be Fri., October 20, 2023; 11:00 AM, St. John Episcopal Church, 215 North 6th Street, Fort Smith, Arkansas.


Burial and final resting place: Oak Cemetery; Fort Smith, Arkansas.
