On a cold wintery Friday, February 2, 1964, a bouncing baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Percy (Lhonita Piggee) Dewhart in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was named Elnora Michelle. She was affectionately called “Missy”. She grew up in Pocola, Oklahoma amongst generations of family, attained her education in the Pocola Public Schools and graduated in the Spring of 1982.
Missy was baptized at Union Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of the late Reverend Joseph Carey where she maintained her membership and stewardship. She was joined in holy matrimony to Roger Jenkins.
Missy wore many hats in her life. She was employed in several disciplines. She was a retail manager, cosmetologist, nanny and in healthcare providing personal and special services to her clientele. She loved being around people and you never had to ponder as to what was on her mind; she cheerfully and frankly shared.
Most of all, her passion was in preparing delicious food and her joy was in seeing the pleasure it brought to others. She loved to share her cuisine with the elderly and infirmed. She would prepare large holiday meals and then give if to those who may not have any and would say, “I couldn’t eat all that food.” She would prepare for family celebrations and reunions. Her strawberry cakes and banana puddings made from scratch were always a crowd pleaser.
Elnora Michelle made her transition on Sunday afternoon, January 16, 2022 from Memphis, Tennessee after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her father: Percy Dewhart; her mother: Lhonita Dewhart Brewer; her grandparents: Elnora Vick Piggee and Shelton Piggee, Sr.; her two aunts: Whonita Piggee Dixon and Mattie Piggee; her two uncles: Shelton Piggee, Jr. and Scottie Piggee; three cousins: Willie Joe Dixon, Tia Piggee and Kanela Piggee Graham.
Missy will be sorely missed and in survived by her husband: Roger Jenkins of Fort Smith, Arkansas; her three brothers: Frank Dewhart and Terrall Brewer both of Pocola, Oklahoma and Sostane Brewer of Fort Smith, Arkansas; a sister-cousin: Stephanie Dixon of Pocola, Oklahoma; a god-son: D’erek Dixon-Fernandez of Austin, Texas; two nieces: Lhonita and Mariah Dewhart of Fort Smith, Arkansas; an aunt: Nancy Piggee of Lake Charles, Louisiana; a special cousin: Yvonne Anderson of Arlington, Texas; cousins: Sandra Lee of Los Angeles, California, Cynthia Tillman of Memphis, Tennessee; Pilar Elnora Piggee of Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Kris Piggee of Irving, Texas, Raven Piggee and Kevin Dixon both of Pocola, Oklahoma and Chase Dixon of Plano, Texas and a host of other loving cousins, relatives, and friends.
