In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Lyons family. Florence’s earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Ms. Florence Lyons.

Florence Lyons was a gift from God on September 26, 1954 to the late James Wesley and Lillie Mae (Massey) Lyons in Pocola, Oklahoma; she was their fourth oldest child. She was also called by God to take her eternal rest on Saturday, December 17, 2022 from Fort Smith, Arkansas.


Florence was raised on the Choctaw reservation in Pocola. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Union Baptist Church. She was educated in the Pocola Public School System. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked for over 30 years in the Healthcare Industry. Servitude was her passion and she loved giving to and nurturing others.


Florence was able to celebrate in holy matrimony for over 25 years with David Woods. They were able to be awesome great-grandparents. Outside of being a nursing caregiver, she was a phenomenal cook and showed love by cooking and serving her family. She was very family oriented, loyal and spiritual. She also loved to sew, crochet, decorate and she loved to sing. She was extremely loved, and she will also be missed by all who knew her throughout her life.


Florence will be forever cherished and remembered by her husband: David Woods of Fort Smith, her four sons: Anthony (Andrea) Lyons of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Rodrick (Kristie) Woods of Jacksonville, Florida, Shawn and Shannon both of Fort Smith, Arkansas; a daughter: Tarah Lyons (Michael) Cooper of Fayetteville, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren three brothers: James (Joyce) Lyons, Julius Lyons both of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Gabriel Lyons of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; three sisters: Jean Lyons of Killeen, Texas, Bertha Clayton of Pocola, Oklahoma and Georgia Young of Clarksville, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.


Celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 104 Clark Street Pocola, Oklahoma 74902.


Committal service and final resting place will be at Laird Cemetery Pocola, Oklahoma.
