Mattie Corrine Rogers


Mattie Corrine Rogers, 94, of Fort Smith died Saturday, January 23, 2016 in Fort Smith. She was born July 15, 1921 in Fort Smith, AR., was a RN retired from Sparks Medical Center, a graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1939, a life-long member of St. Augustine Episcopal Church, and was very instrumental in integrating the Fort Smith Public School System.

She was married to William Rogers, Sr. who preceded her in death. Her parents, George and Lucenda Parker; two children: son, William Rogers, Jr. and daughter, Janis Rogers also preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters: Hazel (Douglas) Frazier, Ruby Palmer, Cendilu Rogers and Marilynn (Dwight) Lee, all of Fort Smith and Sister Patricia Rogers of White Fish Bay, WI; sons: Sammy (Ann) Rogers of Dallas, TX and Eddie (Joyce) Rogers of Phoenix, AZ.

Funeral service will be Friday, January 29, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at St. John Episcopal Church, 215 N 6th St, Fort Smith with burial at Oak Cemetery under the director of Rowell-Parish Mortuary.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 28, 2016 at New Covenant International Christian Center; 4400 North “N” Street, Fort Smith, 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. where the family will visit with friends. There will be no viewing at the funeral.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
