Lola's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall their be anymore pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mother Lola Johnson Brown.

Lola Marie Johnson Brown was born June 11, 1922, in Shibley, Crawford County, Arkansas. She passed away on March 17, 2018. Her parents were Rev. Augustus “Gus” Johnson and Clara Lattimer Johnson, who had three children, William, Mabel A. Johnson and Lola. Her parents and siblings are all deceased. On September 7, 1951, Lola wed Theodore Brown in Crawford County, Arkansas. Theodore passed in 1988. They had no children.
Lola graduated from Douglas High School, received as BSE Degree from University of Pine Bluff and a Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas. She taught in the Elementary level for over 50 years, starting at New Town at Saint Matthew Baptist Church, Douglas School both in Crawford County, Arkansas. She also taught in Vian, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma and Sallisaw, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. She returned to Fort Smith and spent the remaining years at Howard Elementary School in Fort Smith.
She was an active member of Arkansas Teacher Association, Reynolds Cancer Support House, AARP where she was President for 2 years. She belonged to RSVP, CCEHC [Crawford County Extension Homemakers Club] and after retirement volunteered in teaching reading to the Sutton Elementary School students. She also volunteered as a County Poll Worker and a numerous other organizations. Since 1930 she has been a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the Rev. Smith, working as a Sunday School Teacher, Missionary Society, Baptist Training Union and a Loyal Servant.
Lola leaves to cherish her loving memory, Ethel Manager of St. Louis, Missouri, Col. Billy Laster of Virginia, Gerald Buckman of Kansas City, Missouri, Alphonso Trent III, Elaine Trent, Evelyn Tonia Holleman, Peggy Lewis, Sarah Knight, Marion Perry all of Van Buren, Norma Gary of Fort Smith, Isabelle Vanlue of Alma, Gwen and Ithelma Manager of Oklahoma City.
A special Thank you to caregiver Judy Scott , Crawford County Health and Rehab Staff and Peachtree Hospice for their loving care.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 6-8 pm at New Hope Missionary Church, 18 South 14th St., Van Buren, Arkansas 72956. Celebration of life service will be held Thursday, March 22, 2018, 11:00 am at New Hope Missionary Church, 18 South 14th St., Van Buren, Arkansas 72956.
Committal service and final resting place will be held at Forrest Park Cemetery, Fort Smith, Arkansas. A. E. Kimble / Officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations to New Hope Missional Baptist Church, 18 South 14th Street, Van Buren, Arkansas 72956
