In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Hogue family. Ernest's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall their be anymore pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mr. Ernest Hogue, Sr.

Ernest Denard Hogue was born on August 29, 1930 to the late Henry and Helen Hogue. He was 87 years old. Ernest departed this life on April 12, 2018. Ernest began working at a very early age for Compress, Breeden Dodge and Carco International, Inc. where he retired. He attended Douglas High School, Van Buren, Arkansas. He joined the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 13 and remained a member until his death. He was a faithful member. He was known as the "candy man" because he would bring treats and goodies to the children as well as the adults every Sunday. He was a willing worker in any department he was asked to serve. Ernest knew everyone in Fort Smith, Arkansas and if he didn't know them, he knew who they were related to. He enjoyed his back yard and his family being around him. Ernest later married Gussie Mae Fields on May 14, 1950, to this union 9 children were born. His wife preceded him in death on January 30, 2007. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Helen Hogue, three brothers, J D Hogue, George Hogue, Henry Hogue; three sisters, Velma Sloan, Hazel Rogers, and Margaret Harris all of Van Buren, Arkansas. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Ernest leaves to cherish his loving memory, five sons, Ernest (Ressie), Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas, Gerald (Tonya) of Wetumka, Oklahoma, Glen (Cynthia) of Fort Smith, Arkansas, George (Judy) of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Terry (Jacqueline) of Houston, Texas; four daughters, Velma Hogue of Houston, Texas, Christine (Donald) Bray of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Anita (Shah) Mubaarak of Houston, Texas, Teresa (Moses) of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two brothers, Clarence Hogue of Fort Smith, Arkansas, John Henry of Los Angeles, California; 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, friends and extended family. Celebration of life service will be held, Saturday, April 21, 2018, 11:00 AM at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 18 South 14th St., Van Buren, Arkansas 72956.
