Alvin Eugene Price was born on July 16, 1941 in Conway, Arkansas to JoeNathan and Geneva Fuller Price. Both of his parents preceded him in death, as did his beloved oldest brother Murphy D. Price.
The Price Family consisted of 3 sons: the late Murphy, Alvin and his youngest brother, Russell Price. The Prices soon relocated to South Bend, Indiana (home of the legendary Notre Dame University), where Alvin attended Perley Elementary School. Alvin (who was also known as “Al”) excelled in sports and he set a basketball scoring record while in grade school.
Years later, the Prices moved to Detroit, Michigan where Alvin attended Mackenzie High School. At Mackenzie, Alvin joined the ROTC and sang in a musical quartet. Alvin graduated high school in 1959.
After high school, Alvin joined the United States Air Force. In the Air Force, he served as a combat medic during the Vietnam War. In the service, Alvin was also a military boxer where he went on to become a Welterweight Boxing Champion. Alvin attained the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5) and was honorably discharged in May 1968. After his distinguished military service, Alvin returned to Detroit where he worked for automotive giant Chrysler. There he became the proud father of 3 sons: Derek Wilson, Dorian Price, and Domonique Price.
In 1982, at the urging of his younger brother, Russell, Alvin moved to Houston, Texas for the better economic opportunity in the booming Southern city. Alvin’s career in Manufacturing flourished and he was promoted and relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta was also where he met the love of his life, Sylvia Pittman. They married in 1987 and Alvin proudly became the adoptive father of Erica and Thaddeus. On July 16, 1988 (Alvin’s birthday) Sylvia presented Alvin with a most special gift, a new baby son, Aubrey.
For his well-earned retirement, Alvin and Sylvia returned to his childhood home of Conway, Arkansas in 2008. Alvin enjoyed the retired life but kept busy with his hobbies including fishing, bowling, playing cards and more. Alvin and Sylvia’s home remained a happy whirl as they entertained numerous family and friends. It was at their home that Alvin was called to his resting place in Heaven, on February 10, 2020.
Alvin leaves behind to grieve: his youngest brother Russell (Sherridan); his loving wife Sylvia; his five sons (Derek, Dorian, Domonique, Thaddeus, and Aubrey) and his beloved daughter (Erica). His proud brood includes 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
